De nieuwe crowdfunding campagne
Bouw mee met Theater Bellevue aan de nieuwe publieksruimte in het voormalige restaurant boven het theatercafé De Smoeshaan. We willen deze ruimte verbouwen tot een plek waar heel veel kan: van kleinschalige optredens tot lezingen, van nagesprekken tot presentaties en ontmoetingen. Een plek waar publiek en makers elkaar beter kunnen leren kennen. Een plek voor verbinding en reuring, maar soms ook de plek waar het een oase van rust is voor prikkelarme ontvangsten. Zodat bezoekers met een hoge prikkelgevoeligheid ook van ons theater kunnen genieten. Doe jij mee om met de Speakeasy meer ruimte te bieden voor publiek?
Hoe kun jij ons helpen?
De plannen voor de afwerking liggen klaar, de functionaliteit van de ruimte is uitgedacht en de eerste werkzaamheden zijn al gestart. Alleen voor het allerlaatste, tevens belangrijkste, onderdeel hebben we jouw hulp nodig: De inrichting! Techniek wil met een goed lichtplan de jonge artiesten op het kleine podium goed uitlichten. De dag erna moet de ruimte weer gemakkelijk omgezet worden tot een sfeervolle omgeving voor een nagesprek.
Fijn meubilair is nodig, dat we in diverse opstellingen kunnen plaatsen, zodat er heel veel kan op deze plek. Speciale verf op het plafond voor goede akoestiek en dimbare verlichting is nodig voor de prikkelarme ontvangsten. Om dit mogelijk te maken hebben we jouw hulp nodig! Iedereen die Theater Bellevue een warm hart toedraagt, kan bijdragen aan onze campagne. Elke donatie, groot en klein, is welkom! Zodat we vanaf komend najaar (oktober) de Speakeasy feestelijk kunnen openen. Goed om te weten: iedere donateur ontvangt een uitnodiging voor de feestelijke opening!

De Speakeasy
De Speakeasy verwijst naar een verborgen plek voor samenkomst ten tijde van drooglegging in de VS in de jaren ‘30, waar illegaal drank werd aangeboden en idealen werden omgezet in actie. Deze Speakeasy’s waren de bakermat voor de civil rights movement en vrouwen- en queeremancipatie.
Bellevue’s Speakeasy wordt de plek voor nieuwe stemmen en verhalen voor iedereen die op zoek is naar ontmoeting of verdieping en naar tot nu toe nog niet gehoorde talenten en verhalen. Beschut, in kleine kring, kun je hier terecht voor nagesprekken, theatrale lezingen, open podia-avonden, podcastopnames, of gewoonweg: een ruimte voor rust voorafgaand aan de voorstelling.
Voor de Speakeasy’s had je een wachtwoord nodig om er binnen te komen. In de Speakeasy van Theater Bellevue is geen wachtwoord nodig maar als donateur heb je wel de sleutel in handen voor deze realisatie van deze ontmoetingsplek.
Theater Bellevue
Als de muren van Theater Bellevue konden fluisteren, zouden deze heel wat te vertellen hebben. Over bevlogen speeches van politici en activisten als Anton de Kom, tot de optredens van Jimi Hendrix en de eerste try-outs van Youp van 't Hek. Bellevue Alle Zalen! klonk door Amsterdam als er een groot feest op komst was. Nog altijd is Bellevue de plek waar makers en publiek uit alle windstreken samenkomen en verschillen en overeenkomsten gevierd worden.
In het hart van Amsterdam is Bellevue een theater op menselijke maat, dat met een meerstemmig programma en nieuwe eigen (co)producties een podium geeft aan nog niet of weinig gehoorde verhalen. Hier werken we vanuit de overtuiging dat verbeelding kan verbinden en dat de live-ontmoeting bijdraagt aan begrip en empathie. Wat Bellevue betreft gaat het niet over ‘zo is het nu eenmaal’, maar ‘zo kan het ook’. En dat is ook waar we de Speakeasy voor bouwen.

Help build Bellevue: donate for the new public space The Speakeasy
Join Theater Bellevue in building the new public space in the former restaurant from theater café De Smoeshaan. We want to transform this space into a versatile venue: from intimate performances to lectures, from post-show discussions to presentations and meetings. A place where the audience and creators can get to know each other better. A space for connection and buzz, but also sometimes a haven of tranquility for sensory-friendly events, so that visitors with high sensory sensitivity can also enjoy our theater. Help us build our own Speakeasy!
Why do we need your help?
The plans for the interior are ready, the functionality of the space has been thought through, and the initial work has already begun. But for the final and most crucial part, we need your help: the interior! The technical team wants to create a lighting plan that highlights young artists on the small stage. The next day, the space should easily transform into a cozy setting for post-show discussions.
We need comfortable furniture that can be arranged in various setups, so the space can be used for a wide range of activities. Special paint for the ceiling to improve acoustics and dimmable lighting for sensory-friendly events are also needed. To make this all possible, we need your help! Everyone who cares about Theater Bellevue can contribute to our campaign. Every donation, large or small, is welcome! This will allow us to open The Speakeasy in the fall with a festive celebration. Good to know: every donor will receive an invitation to the festive opening!
Speakeasy
The Speakeasy refers to a hidden gathering place during the Prohibition era in the U.S. in the 1930s, where illegal alcohol was served and ideals were turned into action. These Speakeasies were the breeding grounds for the civil rights movement and the emancipation of women and queer communities.
Bellevue's Speakeasy will be the place for new voices and stories, for everyone seeking connection or deeper understanding, and for talents and stories that have not yet been heard. In this intimate, sheltered space, you can attend post-show discussions, theatrical lectures, open mic nights, podcast recordings, or simply enjoy a peaceful environment before the show begins.
Back in the day, you needed a password to enter a Speakeasy. At Theater Bellevue's Speakeasy, no password is needed, but as a donor, you hold the key to making this meeting space a reality.

If the walls of Theater Bellevue could whisper, they would have plenty to say. From passionate speeches by politicians and activists like Anton de Kom, to performances by Jimi Hendrix and the first try-outs of Youp van 't Hek. "Bellevue Alle Zalen!" (Bellevue All Halls!) echoed through Amsterdam whenever a big party was coming. To this day, Bellevue is a place where similarities and differences are celebrated, by creators and audiences from all corners of the world.

Here, we work with the conviction that imagination can connect people and that live encounters contribute to understanding and empathy.
