Het festival Pop Arts toont de nieuwste, internationale tendensen op het gebied van poppen- en objecttheater. “Er zijn veel actuele ontwikkelingen in de discipline. Een nieuwe generatie theatermakers werkt met de actualiteit, met nieuwe verhalen en referentiekaders. Daarnaast zijn huidige makers nog meer op zoek naar crossverbanden met de esthetiek van beeldende kunst, hedendaagse muziek en animatie- en gameontwerp.” schrijft Frank Noorland, programmeur van Theater Bellevue.

Pop Arts is de poppenkast voorbij. Dansers, mimers, acteurs en beeldend kunstenaars spelen de zaal plat met snelle, ruwe en sexy beelden en stilstaande, warme poëzie. De spelers verdwijnen in dit hardcore poppentheater niet meer achter hun poppen, maar staan samen met hun vreemde wezens en objecten manifest op het podium. Het levert vaak confronterende ontmoetingen op.

Pop Arts demonstrates the most recent, international developments in puppet- and object theatre for youth and adults. Within their performances, theatre makers combine puppet manipulation with contemporary dance, drama, mime, music and visual arts. Here, the actors do no longer disappear behind their puppets, but demonstratively join their extraordinary creatures on stage.

Bellevue Theatre and the Ostade Theatre present hardcore, transgressive puppet- and object theatre, ranging from poetic fairy tales to gloomy nightmares, from sweet and intimate to raw, fast and enormous. Theatre De Krakeling shows us transgressive youth theatre with solid contents and a magnificent interplay between actors and puppets. Alongside, the public are invited to meet the puppets in the foyer as well as the basement of De Krakeling.

For one week, Amsterdam is brimmed with puppet theatre for young and old, originating from, among other countries, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Peru, Germany, Russia, Iran and Brasil. You'd Better Pop In!
