Geïnspireerd door Daniel Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe en Shakespeares De Storm maken dansmakers Ginevra Panzetti en Enrico Ticconi hun eigen eilandverhaal met dans en traditionele Sardijnse wiegeliedjes. Insel staat voor de confrontatie met de donkere kanten in jezelf, maar ook voor verbinding met voorouderlijke kracht en wijsheid.

Twee schipbreukelingen stranden op een onbewoond eiland. Ze worden geflankeerd door twee zwartgeklede alter ego’s die hun bewegingen beginnen te overschaduwen. Op dit verlaten eiland komen ze zichzelf tegen en gaan de strijd met zichzelf aan.

Het eiland als dé metafoor voor isolatie. Ginevra Panzetti en Enrico Ticconi, gerekend tot de interessantste dansmakers van Italië, creëren met Insel een staat van onthechting – een onderdompeling in de diepe lagen van het zelf. 

Uit de lucht valt een dun reepje zand, als in een zandloper. Er vormt zich letterlijk nieuwe grond op het speelvlak. Hoewel de schipbreukelingen zich aanvankelijk slechts lijken te bekommeren om hun eigen hachje en zich uiten met machtsgeweld, ontstaat er in samenspel met hun schaduwen een gezamenlijk ritueel: van isolement naar verbinding. Is dit de opkomst van een nieuwe gemeenschap? 

De klankcreatie van in het Italiaans gereciteerde teksten wordt ondersteund door gezangen van tenor Gavino Murgia, gespecialiseerd in de traditionele cantu a tenore, een polyfone zangtechniek uit de pastorale cultuur van Sardinië. Zo lijkt uit het eiland zélf een voorouderlijke stem te komen die de aarde laat trillen en zijn tijdelijke bewoners in beweging zet. 

Panzetti en Ticconi maken dans die doordrenkt is van politieke, historische en filosofische reflectie op de symboliek van tastbare plekken. Na de tuin, het stadsplein en de stad is nu het eiland aan de beurt. “De botsing van de schipbreukeling met een onbewoond eiland is wat ieder van ons ervaart als we in onszelf duiken en onze donkere kant tegenkomen.”

Insel

Inspired by Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe and Shakespeare's The Storm, dance makers Ginevra Panzetti and Enrico Ticconi create their own island story with dance and traditional Sardinian lullabies. Insel represents the confrontation with the dark sides in yourself, but also the connection with ancestral power and wisdom.

Two castaways are stranded on a desert island. They are flanked by two alter egos dressed in black that begin to overshadow their movements. On this desert island, they encounter and enter into battle with themselves.

The island as the perfect metaphor for isolation. With Insel, Ginevra Panzetti and Enrico Ticconi, counted among Italy's most interesting dance makers, create a state of detachment – an immersion in the deep layers of the self. 

A thin strip of sand falls from the sky, like in an hourglass. New ground is literally forming on the stage area. Although at first the castaways seem to care only about themselves and express themselves with force of power, in an interplay with their shadows a shared ritual emerges: from isolation to connection. Is this the rise of a new community? 

The sound creation of texts recited in Italian is supported by chants by tenor Gavino Murgia, who specialises in the traditional cantu a tenore, a polyphonic singing technique from Sardinia's pastoral culture. Thus, an ancestral voice that vibrates the earth and sets its temporary inhabitants in motion seems to come from the island itself. 

Panzetti and Ticconi create dance steeped in political, historical and philosophical reflection on the symbolism of tangible places. After the garden, the town square and the city, it is now the island's turn. "The castaway's collision with a desert island is what each of us experiences when we dive into ourselves and encounter our dark side."
